Overview
The Korean Federation of Teachers’ Associations (KFTA) and Korean Ministry of Education (MOE) are co-hosting ‘the 32nd ASEAN Council of Teachers’ (ACT+1) Convention’ on September 18th (Sun) to 20th (Tues), 2016 at The K-Hotel Seoul, South Korea. The theme of the Convention is “Expansion of Quality Education in ASEAN and Korea through Character and Global Citizenship Education”. More than 500 participants are expected to join the Convention ranging from teachers, professors, scholars, education policy makers from ASEAN countries and Korea to international students from all over the world.
The ACT+1 Convention, also known as ASEAN Council of Teachers, is an international conference that is held on an annual basis to discuss and share ideas to develop teachers’ proficiency and global learning environment. Originally, it was an educational conference held only within ASEAN countries. KFTA, representing Republic of Korea, joined the Convention in 2009 and became the first non-ASEAN regular member in 2012 as the ASEAN+1 member. After joining of Republic of Korea, the abbreviated name of the Convention became ‘ACT+1’. Thus, until this present day the convention is composed of teacher organizations from South Korea and nine ASEAN countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Thailand, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam).
The 32nd ACT+1 Convention is the first convention ever to be held in a non-ASEAN country.
This convention would provide valuable opportunities for participants to expand their knowledge on the history and future perspectives of education in ASEAN countries and Korea as well as further build international networks.
